PhoebeNewYork at The Kitchen Benefit Auction 2017

This collage work depicts PHOEBENEWYORK, the alter-ego of artist Libby Schoettle. Created with a mix of found objects including vintage photographs, magazine clippings, or clothing, the work combines materials that have been owned and handled by others, incorporating their tactile qualities into works that find beauty in the supposed flaws of wrinkles, rips, or stains. Phoebe’s humorous and satirical observations about life and love mirror Schoettle’s own experiences and vulnerability. Her adventures can be seen throughout New York City in the form of stickers featuring the collages themselves, each depicting this now iconic round-faced woman with bobbed black hair, PHOEBENEWYORK. –Courtesy of The Kitchen
